Positions Available:

Environmental Health Director
Full-time (36/hrs week) Starting Pay: $21.00/hr (with an increase upon obtaining LEHP licensure)​
Essential Functions:
  • Manages environmental health programs and staff;
  • Performs inspections for environmental health programs including septic, food establishments, and water wells;
  • Prepares ordinances, rules, and regulations for consideration by appropriate authorities;
  • Establishes policy for operations of the environmental health activities and, in conjunction with Administration, assists in formulation of departmental policies;
  • Serves as a consultant/educator to elected and appointed officials, consulting engineers and architects, civic groups, and the general public on matters pertaining to environmental health;
  • Actively participates in the programs and activities of professional organizations related to environmental control;
  • Serves as spokesman for the CCHD on environmental health matters at public meetings as approved by the Administrator;
  • Serves as Vector Control Coordinator and fulfills the duties required of that grant;
  • Completes supporting grant reports for environmental health programs,
  • Adapts existing environmental health programs to changing community needs; recommends initiation of new programs.
 
Qualifications per the State of Illinois Administrative Code:
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Environmental Health Science or Public Health
  • Bachelors or Master’s degree that has a curriculum of a minimum of 30 semester hours, or the equivalent of basic sciences with at least 3 hours in each of the following areas (if a few hours short, may obtain after employment):
    • Physical Sciences (Physics/Chemistry/Astronomy/Geology, etc.)
    • Chemical Sciences
    • Biological Sciences
    • Math
Additional Qualifications:
  • Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP) – may be obtained after employment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Organizational skills
  • Computer skills
  • Requires demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with clients, other providers, and the community
  • Requires the ability to interact with administration, boards, public and staff in friendly, cooperative, confidential and professional manner at all times
 
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently operate computer
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Occasionally standing for long periods of time
